In the wake of our recent political shift, I’ve been thinking a lot about our society, and how we relate to each other through the pre-disposed structures that dictate our moral thinking. In this case specifically, I've been thinking about classical western cultures, and the practices of and depictions of same-sex love in those cultures—at certain periods socially acceptable, at others not— and how these relationships exist within the changing tides of our own government, the scapegoating of gender and binary sex non-conforming bodies in politics, and how all of this comes into question when we consider the loaded ideas in icon and symbol. This flag presents that thinking, about queer identity and queer unity and asks, what will become of it, of us, in the near future?
